The acute environmental problems that previously threatened Lake Vänern have now been dealt with since the major sources of them have introduced wastewater treatment and modified production processes. Today the waters of the lake are much cleaner than they were in the 1960s and 1970s. Read more about this under Vänern as it used to be.
