In English

Whether the economy is in a boom period or in decline, it always seems to be more difficult for people from a non-Swedish background to get a job. The Bazaar aims to counteract this circumstance.

The Bazaar usually attracts around 60–70 exhibitors spread over three floors:

  • Recruitment: employers looking for personnel
  • Education, foreign qualifications and degrees: information and advice
  • Business start-up: information for people looking to start a business

Meeting place for employers and jobseekers

In the recruitment section, visitors get a chance to meet employers face to face and, on many occasions, apply for jobs at the Bazaar itself. This is something that is particularly appreciated by visitors from non-Swedish backgrounds, who find that they are rarely called to interview. During the 2011 Bazaar this section had 9,700 visitors.

Union information

The unions SACO (the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations) and LO (the Swedish Trade Union Federation), all of which are co- organisers of the Bazaar, provide information on rights and responsibilities in working life. Under the direction of SACO, around 60 people are offered mock interviews/careers advice.

Education

Stockholms Akademiska Forum (Staf) coordinates information on higher and other education in Stockholm, and also has advisers on hand to describe how to get foreign qualifications and degrees evaluated. This section had 7,000 visitors during the 2011 Bazar.

Business start-up

This section gathers the market’s most important players (public and private) in the business start-up field. Visitors can discuss everything from business concept analysis, forms of enterprise and financing to trading with other countries. At the Café Starta Eget, exhibitions will share the spotlight with interviews and discussions with entrepreneurs and exhibitors on stage. Last time this section had more than 2,300 visitors.

CV corner

Arbetsförmedlingen City, co-organiser located a couple of hundred metres from Kulturhuset, offer a job search seminar and their opinions on CVs and résumés. Last time eighty foreign engineers who had been contacted in advance were able to meet around ten visiting companies from the town of Västerås that were looking for qualified engineers. Arbetsförmedlingen had 675 registered visitors.

Training – Swedish for professionals in Stockholm County

During recent years the County of Stockholm has built up training courses in Swedish for professionals, Sfx. These are aimed at people with professional training from other countries. All these training courses were represented at the Bazaar: SFA medicin (for e.g. doctors or dentists), and Swedish for bus drivers, entrepreneurs, craftspeople, engineers, truck drivers and teachers. The Bazaar is an important hub for these programmes; many people have applied for them at the Bazaar over the years.
